Reflection 4

Spring Break was not long enough or maybe I just did not rest enough. However, I am so relieved to have the Praxis/Content Knowledge behind me. I still love this semester and the entire curriculum that we are covering. I am excited to look at the “Informal Reading Inventory” text, and to gain knowledge about measuring students’ performances against established criteria.
I also am excited about the practicum, and pleased to be in a first grade classroom.  This is where the main part of the reading and writing foundations begin. Observing the beginning processes of reading and writing will provide me with helpful information to build on, especially if I were to go into a second or third grade classroom.   I only wish it were in the beginning of the school year, when all of the groundwork is laid for beginning readers and writers rather than know where TCAP is the primary focus. Although, the TCAP prep is something that we will do ourselves someday, and so becoming familiar with the process will only be beneficial.

  1. Sharon,

I agree spring break was definitely NOT long enough! I am so glad to have the Praxis finished with, for now. I am very excited about this practicum too, and I cannot wait to witness how my students will respond to and interactive with the read aloud lessons that I am doing. My students have already told me they love to hear stories; so I cannot wait to get started! The TCAP is something that we will one day have to do; so I am also glad to have the opportunity to see how the preparation for the TCAP goes.

  2. Your right spring break was not long enough and I am glad that one of the praxis tests is over. I think it would be great to do our practicum at the start of the year to see students take the beginning steps in reading. First grade sounds like a exciting grade level and you have a great mentor teacher.

  3. I am so thankful the Praxis is over (for now)! I agree with Travis. I was thinking today how awesome it would have been to have seen all the progress the students have made throughout the year. It just amazes me how smart they are and how much they already know at this age! I'm so glad we were placed in the same grade level again. It's a lot of fun working with you. :)
