Reflection 6

I enjoyed my field experience and I’m thankful for all that I got to observe and demonstrate. However, I still feel like there is so much more to learn. I wish TCAP had not been the classroom’s main focus. That really changed things up-in a crazy kind of way. I so enjoyed all the off the wall lessons that Ashley did do while I was there, but wish I could have seen more of the everyday classroom environment. Although, I still feel like I got an idea of what type of stress level the TCAP put on the teachers and students. I am not one hundred percent confident in my abilities to teach reading to beginning readers.  But, the thought of teaching writing, at any level, does not bother me.

  1. Those pesky tcaps took up alot of instruction time this semester. It would have been great to have been in the classroom at the beginning of the year. I am glad that you are gaining more confidence about teaching students to read and write. You will be fine so don't worry.

  2. Sharon,

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your practicum experience. I too wish I would have been able to see more teaching going on instead of all the practice for TCAP. I mean, don't get me wrong, it is important to prepare your students for the TCAP, but I do not feel that you should press the TCAP practice don't their throats every single day. They need some time to breathe. I hope the finial days of your semester continue to go well!

  3. Ashley and Melissa definitely had some very interesting and off the wall lessons. And the students seemed to really enjoy them and learn a lot from them. If it hadn't been for the TCAPs, I think we would've learned soooooooo much more than we did. We would've really gotten to see what a normal class day was for them. But you take what you can get and learn from it. All in all, it was a great semester! I hope you have an awesome summer!
